Winter, 1943. For eight-year-old Martina, after her newborn brother passes away, death can never be far from her family and the farming community in which they live. But it arrives in an unexpected form: German troops, occupying Italy after Mussolini’s demise. Based on actual historical events, the second film by Giorgio Diritti (The Wind Blows Round, Open Roads 2006) reveals a chapter of wartime history until now rarely discussed or depicted on screen. One of the most powerful films of the year.
