SHANGHAI EXPO 2010: Concert "Italian Opera and Cinema" of Maestro Andrea Griminelli

At the Universal Exhibition of Shanghai, which will present more than 200 nations and international organizations, the Emilia-Romagna Region carries out a number of initiatives for the enhancement of its excellence in China, which is a country increasingly considered having priority for many interests. These initiatives will aim to offer to Chinese and international public a clear representation of an Italian region like Emilia-Romagna in all its meanings, cultural, tourist and above all productive.
The Emilia-Romagna Region will attend Expo 2010 from September 1 to 15 with its own exhibition space inside the Italian Pavilion, which intends to interpret the general theme of the Expo, "Better City, Better Life" as a key aim
to enhance the innovative and productive components of building and living fields.

Among the cultural events, it is scheduled for September 10 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the concert "Italian Opera and Cinema" of flutist Maestro Andrea Griminelli, who is one of cultural excellences of Emilia-Romagna. Hailed by critics and audiences for his highly sensitive interpretations and his amazing technique, Andrea Griminelli has been entered by the New York Times among the "eight emerging artists of the 90s."

He came to the flute at the age of ten, studying with legendary Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway, who calls him "the greatest flute player came to the fore of the music scene for many years." While studying with J. P. Rampal at the Paris Conservatoire he won competitions in Stresa and Alexandria. In 1983 and 1984 was awarded the prestigious Prix de Paris. His international debut takes place in 1984 at the age of twenty when he is presented to the overseas public by Luciano Pavarotti in the memorable concert at Madison Square Gardens in New York and with whom takes intense collaborations over the years among which we recall the unforgettable concert at ´Hyde Park in London in 1990, at Central Park in New York in 1993, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and in Moscow´s Red Square.
His career has been enhanced with major concerts and tours in Europe, Japan, South America, United States and throughout the world, performing in prestigious concert halls and opera from Teatro alla Scala to Carnegie Hall in New York alongside artists such Pretre, Giulini, Mehta, Krivine, Sutherland, Bonynge, Rampal, Rojdestvenski, Levine, Mon-Ja, Ughi, Sado, Semkov and orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony, the Munich Rundfunkorchester, the Philharmonia of London, New York Philharmonic, RAI Turin, the Dallas Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1991, the President of the Republic gives the honor of Knight while in 2003 the honor of Officer of Merit of the Italian Republic. He performs the world premiere of new compositions for flute and orchestra written specifically for his instrument by composers including Charles Boccadoro, Fabrizio Festa, Ennio Morricone, Shigeaki Saegusa. His artistic activity also boasts collaborations with Luciano Pavarotti, Elton John, James Taylor, Bradford Marsalis and the legendary leader Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. The recordings include concertos by Vivaldi and Mercadante Flute (Decca) with the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by JP Rampal, the disc "Andrea Griminelli´s Italian Cinema" where the most famous Italian movie soundtracks, and rearranged by Bacalov Morricone, are reinterpreted by him along with Sting, Pavarotti, Lucio Dalla, Deborah Harry, Filippa Giordano.
In 2005-2006 focuses on intensive recording production with label Decca: he records the Complete Works for Flute by WA Mozart with the Camerata Salzburg conducted by Sir Roger Norrington, a nineteenth century Italian music CD for flute and guitar together with Filomena Moretti,the compositions of Beethoven and Schubert for flute and piano with Gianluca Cascioli and Quartets by Rossini for flute quartets. In December 2006 came out with the Decca label his last recording of quartets for flute and strings with the Keller Quartet. Latest concert tour of 2006 included a tour of South America along with the Italian guitarist Emanuele Segre in major cities of Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil and a concert in Caracas with Youth Orchestra "Simon Bolivar" under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel . In September 2007 he was appointed president of the Institute of Musical Studies "A. Peri "in Reggio Emilia and in January 2008 as president of the Musica Institutel" Claudio Merulo "of Castelnuovo Monti in Reggio-Emilia. In 2008 he performed with harp player Luisa Prandina, with the Orchestre Symphonique of Nancy, the Hanoi Opera Hause at the concerts for Hennessy Concert Series, he has worked with the Orchestra Sinfonica of Savona,he performed during the concert in Petra in honor of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti which was later broadcasted on Retequattro; he performed also during the concert of Andrea Bocelli in Naples in Piazza del Plebiscito. He finally recorded with label Decca the Boccherini Quintets with the Cremona Quartet.
