Rimini, 2009 Mostra: Milena Pavlovic' Barilli. Fashion in the room of an artist

Milena Pavlovic Barilli (Pzarevac, 1909 - New York 1945), painter and illustrator of fashion, is artistically formed practicing herself with the “figurino”. She played with her identity dressing and making photographs with male clothings.
She is the symbol of the new type of woman of the twenties; she loved to create suits and accessories and her works were published on the most important magazines of fashion among which Town & Country, Harper´s Bazaar and Vogue.

The Exibition
The exibition develops a concept, thought by a group of research of the Universities of Bologna-Rimini and Belgrado, that sets attention on topics addressed memory, on the representation of the self and on the illustration of fashion.
The exhibition is divided in three spaces
: the first section focuses on the relationship between personal and historical memory, through photographs and drawings that date back to her childhood; the second section investigates the fashion as a creative hothouse; the third section deals with fashion as a representation of herself.
It is the place where the artist comes to life through her clothes and self-portraits.
The exhibition will display about 60 works between portraits and paintings, 40 illustrations of fashion and some of her clothes of the 30s and 40s.
The exhibition opens Saturday, December 19 (5 p.m.) at the Rimini Museum.
.
The Project
"1909-2009 - A century and two European artists: Gruau and Pavlovic drawing the fashion”. The exhibition is part of a larger international project promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region – Europe Department, International Cooperation, Equal Opportunities - and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.
The project contemplates this exhibition, two workshops held in Rimini and in Belgrade and a second exhibition at the Center Culturel Francais - spring 2010 - in Belgrade on René Gruau. This artist shares with Milena the same historical period of training and the same international dimension of their research. The project specifically seeks to highlight what the two artists have in common and in differences.
